In my experience of drawing portraits, I find the process equally intimate with the subject as it is intimidating. The fine line between accurate representation and smoothing of flaws is one portrait artists know well. It’s important to draw for “fun” as much as is it for work and I had the idea of drawing my friends and I for a tapestry for a festival. Rather than trying to capture us all at our finest, I chose to reference many of the embarrassing photos we have taken together while intoxicated. It made for a fun final piece that we proudly hung in our camp. While I no longer drink, I look back on many of those memories with a smile and that brief time of carefree fun that we all shared.
